At today’s committee meeting (July 9th),our legendary treasurer Barry Sweeting informed the committee of his retirement. Barry served the club in two separate spells, amassing some 30 years at the helm. He steered the club through numerous tricky times using his meticulous approach and attention to detail to create the steady foundations which we now enjoy.
Barry will of course be as regular at the club as always and it will be fantastic for him and us to enjoy our times together with him being unburdened from his onerous responsibilities.
The words ‘club legend’ can be overused but they are certainly apt in the case of Mr. Sweeting. Our deepest gratitude knows no bounds and the club wishes him many years of personal freedom watching the club he loves and keeping an eye on things from his unofficial but acknowledged by all, place at the bar.
If you see a club legend and life member sipping from a glass shaped like a wellington boot, guarding his sausages from grasping hands and keeping a beady eye on things from his corner, you may well want to refill his glass for him.
Barry….thanks for your unstinting work and loyalty…we are truly grateful.
